December

It is winter now. The weather is cold and the rivers and lakes begin to freeze. The ice is strong in some places, but it can be dangerous in others. Snow is falling from the sky. It covers the ground, the trees, and the streets. People wear warm clothes, hats, gloves, and boots to stay warm. Children can play in the snow and make snowmen. They can also go skiing, sledging, and skating on the ice.

Many boys and girls like winter better than any other season. They enjoy winter sports more than summer sports. Skiing, ice skating, and snowball fights are very popular. Families often go to the mountains or parks to enjoy the snow. Winter is also a time for holidays and celebrations. People like to drink hot chocolate, eat tasty food, and spend time with their friends and families.

On December 22 we have the shortest day and the longest night of the year. The sun rises late in the morning and sets early in the evening. People spend more time indoors in the evenings. They read books, watch films, or play games. Even though the days are short and cold, winter has many beautiful things to see and do.
