A Good Idea

In an old house, there lived a big cat. His name was Tom. In the same house, there lived many little mice.

Tom the cat lived in the kitchen. The mice lived under the floor in the kitchen.

The mice were hungry. They wanted food from the kitchen. But the cat was there! He could see them and eat them!

The mice did not know what to do. They thought and thought.

Then one little mouse had an idea. She said, "We can go to the kitchen when Tom is not there. Then he will not see us."

But Mother-mouse said, "That is not good. Tom runs fast. He can catch you and eat you."

The mice thought again. Then an old mouse said, "I know what to do. Tom likes to watch TV. We can buy a TV for him. Then he will watch TV all the time. Then we can get our food."

All the mice liked this idea. They bought a TV set for Tom.

Now, every evening Tom watches TV. And the little mice have a good supper in the kitchen. They are happy.
