Overpaid

A thin man was walking along the bank of a river when he suddenly saw some rich clothes on the bank and at the same time heard a cry, "Help, help!" Somebody was shouting from the middle of the river, and a head appeared, then disappeared again. The thin man jumped into the water and saved the stranger from drowning. The stranger was a fat man, and the thin man was quite tired when they reached the bank.

"You saved my life, you know," said the fat man as he put on his rich clothes. "Here is sixpence for you. You did a brave thing, a very good thing."

The thin man looked at the sixpence, then at the fat man, then at the sixpence again, and said, "That is too much money because I am not sure that I did a very good thing."
