Marguerite de Angeli was an American writer and illustrator of children’s books. She was born in 1889 in Lapeer, Michigan, and grew up in Pennsylvania. As a young girl, she loved to draw and read stories. Before becoming a writer, she worked as a library assistant and a singer.

Her first book, "Children of the Bible", was published in 1937. After that, she wrote and illustrated many books for children. Her stories often showed how people lived in different times and places. She wanted to teach children about kindness, understanding, and respect for others.

One of her most famous books is "The Door in the Wall" (1949). It tells the story of a boy in medieval England who learns courage and patience after he becomes ill. The book won the Newbery Medal, one of the most important awards for children’s books in the United States.
