It is Night

It is night. The big round moon is shining. There are no clouds in the sky. Night-birds and bats are flying about. Mr. and Mrs. Dale are not at home. Polly is sitting at the window looking into the dark garden. Suddenly she sees Jimmy and Lily under a tree. Then she sees Sam, who is standing not far from them. He is speaking loudly to the children, who are listening to him with interest.
Polly gets very angry. She knows that children must be in bed at nine or ten o'clock. Why are they not sleeping? Why is Jimmy not in bed? Why are Sam and Lily sitting under the tree in the Dales’ garden? Where is their father? Where is Aunt Jane?
Polly comes out of the house and shouts: "Jimmy, it's time to go to bed! Come here!"
But Jimmy the Carrot knows that his parents are not at home, so he shouts back to his sister: "I won't. You are not my mother. When my mother comes home, I'll come too."
Oh, he is such a stubborn boy, that little Jimmy the Carrot!
It's story time.
