Today Sam, Jim and Lily play in the garden. They are all together. The sky is blue. It is a beautiful day. The trees are green. There are many flowers in the grass. The flowers are pretty.

Lily likes daisies and violets. These are her favorite flowers. Jim and Sam like roses and yuccas. They prefer these plants. They know that these plants grow in the South. They understand this.

Roombo and Reni are also in the garden. The two animals are there. They are asleep in the shade of a big fir-tree. They sleep under the tree. You know that Roombo likes to sleep in the shade when the day is hot. He rests when it is warm.

“Look, look! There is a red squirrel in that pine-tree,” Sam says. He sees an animal.

“Where is it? Where is the squirrel?” Lily asks. She wants to see it too.

“It is very high in the tree,” Sam says. He points up.

“Squirrels like nuts,” Lily says. She knows about squirrels.

“What a clever girl she is!” Sam says and smiles. He thinks she is smart.

“I know I’m clever. I’m very clever,” Lily says. She agrees.

“No, you are not. I know a very good rhyme,” Jim says. He disagrees.

“What rhyme?” Lily and Sam ask. They want to hear it.

“Little Lily is very silly,” Jim says. He says the rhyme.

“No, I’m not silly at all,” Lily says. She does not like it.

She is very angry and goes home. She leaves the garden.
