Mensen Ernst, the Norwegian runner, was one of the greatest long-distance runners in history. He was born in 1795 and became famous for running very long distances very quickly. The records he set during the early 19th century are still remembered today, even though they are not officially verified.

For example, Mensen Ernst reportedly ran from Paris, France, to Moscow, Russia, in about two weeks. He ran on very poor roads, in all kinds of weather: hot sun, rain, and strong winds. On his way, he had to swim across 13 large rivers. Some reports say he ran up to 125 miles in one day! This was very difficult, but Mensen was strong and very determined.

Another amazing journey was from Istanbul, Turkey, to Kolkata in India, and then back to Istanbul. He completed this round trip in 59 days. On average, he ran about 95 miles every day. The total distance of this journey was approximately 5,625 miles. Mensen Ernst did not use horses or other help. He ran the entire way on his own.

Mensen Ernst ate simple food and slept very little. He wanted to train his body and mind for long-distance running. His story shows courage, determination, and an incredible love for running. Today, Mensen Ernst is remembered as one of the strongest and fastest runners in history.
