Charlotte Bronte was the daughter of a poor clergyman. There were six children in the family: five girls and one boy. One of Charlotte’s younger sisters, Emily, was also a well-known English writer. Their mother died when Charlotte was a very small child, and this made her childhood lonely and difficult.

When Charlotte was eight years old, she was sent to a girls’ charity school. She later described her experiences there in her famous novel “Jane Eyre”, showing how hard life could be for poor children. After some years, Charlotte went to a school at Roc Head, where she later stayed as a teacher for three years. These experiences of teaching and studying influenced her writing, giving her a deep understanding of children’s education and the challenges they faced.

In 1846, a volume of verses written by Charlotte and her two sisters was published. In the same year, she finished her first novel, “The Professor”, but the publishers rejected it. The book appeared only after her death. Despite this disappointment, Charlotte continued to write, and in 1847 her second novel, “Jane Eyre”, was published. The novel was a great success and brought her fame. It was followed by other novels: “Shirley” in 1849 and “Villette” in 1853.

In “Jane Eyre”, Charlotte Bronte gives particular attention to the education system of the time. She vividly describes the hardships of the charity school where she had spent part of her childhood. Through her story, readers can see the strict rules, harsh punishments, and the difficult life of poor girls at that time. At the same time, she shows the strength and determination of her characters, especially Jane, who struggles to become independent and find her own place in the world.

Charlotte Bronte’s novels are admired not only for their exciting stories, but also for their deep feelings, rich imagination, and understanding of human character. Her own difficult childhood helped her write about suffering, courage, and the hope for a better life.
