One day a dog stole a piece of meat from the cook. On his way to a safe place where he could eat it, he crossed a bridge over a river. He looked down and saw his own reflection in the water.
“Oh,” he thought, “there is another dog down there with a piece of meat that is larger than mine. I shall take it and then I shall have two pieces of meat.”
He barked to frighten the other dog, but when he opened his greedy mouth, his piece of meat fell into the water.
