Archibald Joseph Cronin was born in a poor family in a small town in Scotland. After he finished school, he got a medical education and for some time worked as a doctor. In 1930 he was very ill and had to leave his work as a doctor. He began to write books.
Cronin has written many good novels and some short stories in which he described the capitalist world and the life of the working people in it. “Two Gentlemen of Verona” is one of his short stories. Cronin’s story gets its name from a play by Shakespeare. The story describes two boys who live in Verona. They work very hard to help their sister who is ill.
