In the 18th century, there were thirteen English colonies in North America, which were under British rule. Britain controlled its American colonies and collected heavy taxes from them. The colonists had to pay taxes on sugar, wine, tea, and coffee, and they were very angry about it.
When British ships came into the Boston port with tea in 1773, the Americans decided not to take this tea. At a meeting, they made a plan. Several men dressed in costumes went on board the ships after dark, took the boxes of tea, and dropped them into the water. This event was called the Boston Tea Party. In response, the British government closed the Boston port and sent their ships to the colonies. Soon, a war between Britain and its American colonies began.
It was the war for the independence of the American colonies from British rule.
