In a small village in Staffordshire, a very old dance is performed every September. Six men in Robin Hood costumes carry deer horns set in wooden deer heads. They are joined by other characters: Maid Marian (the heroine of the Robin Hood legends), a knight on a wooden horse, a boy dressed as a jester, another boy with a bow, and many musicians.
The dance begins at 9 a.m. near the church, where the costumes, horns, and other things are kept during the year. The dancers go through the woods and visit many farms where they dance.
In the afternoon, they return through the village and dance in the streets. The dance ends at midnight in the market-place, with many people taking part.
