Schools in England are a little different from schools in other countries. Children start school when they are five years old. From five to seven they go to infant school. An infant school is like a kindergarten. The children draw and paint, sing songs, and listen to stories that the teacher reads. They also play games and begin to learn to read and write.
From seven to eleven children go to junior school. There they learn to read, write, and study maths.
From eleven to sixteen boys and girls go to secondary school. They start in Year 7, and Year 11 is the last year. They have many different subjects in their timetable.
In England, pupils do not go to school on Saturdays or Sundays.
