On a Farm

Thomas is a little boy. He lives in town. His uncle lives in the country and works on a farm. He invited Thomas to spend his summer holidays with him on the farm.

For the first time in his life Thomas saw so many domestic animals there: goats and sheep, horses and cows, pigs, cocks, hens and chickens, ducks and geese.

He wanted to see everything. He wanted to help his uncle in his work. His uncle asked him to take care of a little calf.

Thomas was very glad. The calf was so nice, it was very little and funny. It had long legs. Its eyes were big and brown. They were so beautiful! Thomas gave the calf milk to drink and bread and other things to eat. He took him for a walk. Thomas took good care of the calf and the calf grew up quickly. He liked the calf very much. And the calf was fond of him, too. It always went with Thomas wherever Thomas went. Soon they became very good friends.

Thomas learned to take care of the other animals, too.

When it was time to go back to town, Thomas was very sorry. He went with his uncle to see all the animals and to say goodbye to them. He was sure that the animals were sorry too and that they said goodbye to him in their animal language.
